90, passed away June 12, 2017. He was born in Madison, IN to the late Mathias and Cardula Thinnes. Charles attended Canaan Grade School and graduated from Central High School in Madison, IN. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served from April 1945 - July 1946. After discharge, he returned to Madison and worked at the Jefferson Proving Ground, William Furnace Company, and Kelly Brothers Hardware store.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served from April 1945 - July 1946. After discharge, he returned to Madison and worked at the Jefferson Proving Ground, William Furnace Company, and Kelly Brothers Hardware store.
He pursued his education at Louisville General Hospital as a lab technician where he met his bride to be Norma Jean Schaefer. In 1955, they married and then moved to Beech Grove, IN where they raised four children and were longstanding members of Holy Name Catholic Church.
In Indianapolis, Charles worked at Mitchum Schaefer specializing in metal fabrication, Union Carbide as a mill wright, and retired from IUPUI maintenance department in 1993.
Charles loved vegetable gardening and cooking. He was a skilled carpenter and some of his favorite projects were making custom dollhouses, bird feeders and birdhouses. He was proficient in metal design and could repair anything!
Charles is survived by his children Dianne (Larry) Purcell, Beth Page, and Charles (Tracie) Thinnes; grandchildren Amy (Tim) Diersing, Amber (Nick) Banks, Angela (T.J.) Birdwell, Katie (Michael) Hayes, Antonio Thinnes, Ashley (Garrett) Bova, Kerri Ware, Erynn (Carlo) DeLume', Daniel Thinnes, Emily Ware, Ethan Thinnes and Rebecca Thinnes; great grandchildren Genna, Mariah, Kirsten, Jordyn, Vanessa, Brandon, Jaclyn, Jennalynn, Benjamin and Brooklyn; sister Margaret Sommer; and daughter in law Kathryn Thinnes. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma Jean Thinnes; son James Edward Thinnes; brother George Leo Thinnes; and sisters Catherine Ringwald, and Marie Lichlyter.
Visitation will be Thursday June 15th from 4:00-8:00 PM at Little & Sons Funeral Home Beech Grove Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday June 16th at 10:00 AM at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis
